Green Bows
hiya
I just found 2 new bows for my Ranger... Elswyth Recurve bow and Elswyth Long bow... So i decided to keep the Recurve bow (i dont have a vamp bow yet and its better then Dragos vamp) I asked for price chec for Elswyth Long bow, got answers of 25k , but people only look and run away! when i compare the stats with Drago's Flat Bow, Elswyth comes out as a better bow. Yet, people keep asking for Dragos, willing to pay up to 40k for it. I dont get it! Why do people think that having 10% chance to get armor penetration of extra 10% is going to do such a dramatic diffrence! I mean, if 1 shot out of 10 does +5 dmg then normal shot it doesnt worth the extra 10-20k! I actually think that if foe is poisoned (in most of groups theres always some1 who uses poison, like a necro or anouther ranger) the 33% longer ALL THE TIME does more diffrence! Plz correct me if im wrong or maby theres something i should know better about bows.... ---> Elswyth Long Bow Piercing damage: 15-28 (req. 9 Marksmanship) Damage +15% (while Health is above 50%) Lengthens Poison duration on foes by 33% Health +30 ---> Drago's Flat Bow Piercing damage: 15-28 (req. 9 Marksmanship) Damage +15% (while Health is above 50%) Armor penetration +10% (Chance: 10%) Health +30 |

ppl like Dragos because it's leetsauce, or so they believe. ppl like the long bow because it's good for poisoning builds, which a lot of solo ranger builds use. The price has partly to do with the function of the weapon, but also has some to do with the availability. More ppl are aqquiring Elswyth's Long Bows each day than ppl aqquiring the Dragos. Also the Dragos bow just has a better reputation.

For some reason, people have always been enamored with Sundering. It doesn't matter that the mod is pretty poor in comparison to most others, people still love it (and will argue that it's the best damage mod, despite the math showing otherwise). ...and also, Drago's Flatbow is gigantic. People like large weapons.

lol so i guess its just a trend....
I find that Drago is more availble then Elswyth. Drago is in Sorrows Furnace, takes like 30 min to get to him AND its usually 5 ppl groups, VS Eslwyth bows drop in HOH, (4th lvl of Kings Tomb) it takes forever to get there (average group does in 1 to 1.5 hours), and its always a 8 ppl groups, so less chances! well, trends...... |

The flatbow also has the faster refire rate, which is the main reason why I use it, well in the tombs anyway. You need to supplement it with FW or Read the Wind, so it's good in ranger groups.
I normally use long bows and shortbows in balanced groups though. |

I had it on my ranger bofore. I found it, so i decided to test drive it. I didnt notice anything special about it that would make me want to spend more then 10-15k on it. I sold it for 35k.... and it was totaly worth selling for that much! hehe
btw, i like the vamp bow in the tombs. I use mending (barrage is only 3 energy, with a hight expertise that i always have) Last edited by Maria The Princess; Mar 23, 2006 at 01:03 AM // 01:03.. |

This description of bow properties may help you
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content...ies-id1092.php EDIT : +30hp bow grips of fortitude cost between 30-50K, and are hard to find at times, so it can be a long and expensive process making your own perfect bow. Sometimes greens are the best option..... Last edited by Kidney Licker; Mar 23, 2006 at 01:15 AM // 01:15.. |

Hmm one thing I noticed that no one seemed to comment on, with Dragos Flatbow your Ranger can be farther away and still hit the target. Im not sure if you can do that with Elswyth's bows. So for me, I'll choose Drago's for that extra safety factor

sometimes i replace mending by Wachful spirit (+2 reg and no need to invest attributes in monk skills) if my group assigns me to be wildreness ranger. from skills i use all the time: barrage, dodge, throw dirt, lighting reflexes. All those cost 5 energy, with expertise high its 3 enegy. skills i use rarly are trall enguent (or heal breese), rebirth, comf animal, spirits. so the +2 enegy regen is more then enouth for me! and i rarely need to heal myself cuz with barrage evry arrow gives +5hp. if im facing 2 or 1 monsters(which is rare in ToPK, cuz they come in groups of like 50) i just swich bows to Elswyth long bow and get +3 hp reg, +trall enguent that costs me 3 enery! vamp bows can be tricky but once you learn there very helpful. with that build i hardly ever die! used to die all the time with normal bow and no mending. |

Feh. Mending rocks in farming, and actually helps in random arena too (if you're a warrior you'll take almost exclusively degen damage in random arena) although usually there are other skills which are more helpful there.
Wrt vampiric & zealous, they help. 5 extra vampiric damage per hit isn't bad, and zealous basically means you're never out of energy. |
